Research Focus

We have focused on cancer, heart disease, and diabetes risk reduction and in the past, HIV risk reduction. A particular strength of the CRHB is the development and integration of computer-based – now Internet-based - individually tailored intervention programs with environmental and social supports to maintain behavior changes. Intervention sites have included housing developments, schools, churches, and commercial settings. Computer-based interventions include those designed for and used in specific settings and those available through the Internet. We also have conducted research on innovative exercise and weight management protocols. Major funding for projects has been obtained from the National Institutes of Health (the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Mental Health), the American Cancer Society, and the Virginia Health Care Foundation.
