Faculty Positions
The College of Science at Virginia Tech and the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, in cooperation with the Institute for Biomedical and Public Health Sciences (IBPHS), are seeking to strengthen research in Developmental Science Across The Lifespan through interdisciplinary faculty hires. As part of this initiative, the Department of Psychology in the College of Science and the Department of Human Development in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech are expanding their presence in developmental science.
We wish to recruit faculty members who will participate in collaborative developmental research initiatives with current faculty from both departments. Our current research expertise ranges across the lifespan: infant perception, developmental cognitive neuroscience, children's social and emotional development, developmental psychopathology, adolescent development, adult development, and aging. New faculty appointments may be made in any area of developmental science, but at least one position will be a methodologist whose expertise includes advanced developmental research design and analysis (e.g., longitudinal designs, non-independent data, latent growth curve modeling). Broader interdisciplinary collaborations are anticipated (e.g., Economics, Statistics).
Our faculty hiring is open to developmental researchers in any area, including these special interests:
DEVELOPMENTAL METHODOLOGY: At least one of the positions will be targeted for a methodologist whose expertise includes advanced developmental research design and analysis. This might include longitudinal designs, non-independent data, structural equation modeling, or latent growth curve modeling.
CHILD & ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT: Individuals with demonstrated excellence in an area of child and adolescent development who will participate in collaborative child development initiatives with current faculty in all four departments. Current research expertise includes cognitive and perceptual development, developmental cognitive neuroscience, socio-emotional development, and developmental psychopathology.
ADULT DEVELOPMENT & AGING: Individuals with demonstrated expertise in an area of adult development and aging who will participate in collaborative adult development initiatives with current faculty in all four departments. Current research expertise includes improved family relationships, more satisfactory approaches to caregiving, disease prevention and management, better health care service delivery, and reduction of fraud and elder abuse.
Applications must be submitted online at https://jobs.vt.edu/. Search for Working Title: Developmental Science or Posting Number 041855. The application should include a cover letter, CV, and a statement of research interests. Please include names, addresses, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses for three or more references in the cover letter. Review of applications will begin on February 1, 2005 and will continue until the positions are filled.
