Doctoral Student Zhe Wang Receives Prestigious Chinese Scholarship

Dr. Kristi Graves Selected for Outstanding Recent Alumna in the College of Science


Dr. Kristi Graves of Georgetown University has been selected by the Virginia Tech Alumni Association for the Outstanding Recent Graduate Alumna from the College of Science for 2012-2013. Earlier in the year the Department of Psychology awarded Dr. Graves its own Outstanding Alumna Award and invited her to campus to give a lecture. Dr. Graves has now been selected from among the nominees in all departments within the College of Science for this additional honor. Dr.

Two Psychology Students Inducted into The Order fo the Gavel


Jordan Booker, a graduate student in the Developmental and Biological Psychology program, and Kareim Oliphant, an undergraduate psychology major, were inducted into the Order of the Gavel. The Order of the Gavel is an honor society whose members serve as leaders of major student organizations. It supports leadership development and intellectual and personal growth.

Dr. Scott Geller Awarded 2012 APF Visionary Grant


Dr. Scott Geller has been awarded a 2012 American Psychological Foundation Visionary Grant. Dr. Geller will use his $19,800 Visionary Funds Grant to implement the Actively Caring for People anti-bullying program in three middle schools in Montgomery County, VA.

Two Faculty Involved in Interdisciplinary Program on Violence Prevention


Julie Dunsmore and Scott Geller, are Co-PIs on a newly funded NSF REU Site: “Hands-on Minds-on”:  Multidisciplinary Approaches to Understanding and Preventing Societal Violence. As described by the PI, Diana Ridgwell, the REU program will provide undergraduate students with opportunities to research and study antecedents and consequences of violence.

Psychology Major Philipp Kotlaba Named Outstanding Senior in CLAHS

Breon Tucker, an Undergraduate Psychology Major, Receives Travel Award


Breon Tucker, an undergraduate major in psychology, has received a travel award from the International Society on Infant Studies for his submission to the biennial conference in June, 2012.  Breon was an IMSD and VT Prep scholar for 2 years, and continues as a research assistant in Dr. Panneton’s lab. 

Nicole Thompson Accepted into Interdisciplinary Research Honor Society


Nicole Thompson, graduate student in the Industrial and Organizational Psychology program, has been accepted into Iota Delta Rho, the Interdisciplinary Research Honor Society as a Full Member. She will be formally inducted at a ceremony at the Inn at Virginia Tech on April 10, 2012.
